Right, so it has been a bad month for keeping you informed. Part of that I can happily blame on being ever so slightly busy including a weeklong conference in Yaounde with some lovely people that will be helping guide a new program called SMS for Life to Cameroon.  It could potentially greatly reduce supply chain problems of malaria meds and Peace Corps Cameroon will be helping to roll it out.  The other part of this lack of communication is simply that all technology I touch this week withers and dies in my hands (this laptop, graciously lent to me by Caitlin, is falling apart as I type).

It started with Caitlin’s camera (she’s clearly overly trusting and a bit of a gambler).  I smashed that thing up good and have little idea how.  I’m rough on cameras though.  Before going to Italy in ’07, my father bought me one that is water-proof, dust-proof, and shock-proof (the German section of the warranty literally says “dale-proof”).  Then my phone broke, another type of item which I have a history of destroying.  But it just powered off never to turn on again. As if I sucked the life out of it…  Finally, as you’ve likely guessed, my lovely laptop is no more.  It turns on still, but without a screen seems of little use.  Sigh.

On the bright side my old school use of pen and paper for journaling is validated!  Know what I do when a link in that system breaks?  Walk to a corner store and buy a new pen.  Or a notebook with Messi or some hot American singer on the front.


My God, I just resolved my other problem!  Thanks, Messi!

I usually deal with goodbyes by ignoring them.  Completely if possible.  My go to line is something like: "This isn't goodbye; I'll swing by one last time before I'm off."  Sometimes it's true, sometimes it isn't.  Regardless, it does a fine job of dodging the mushy hugs and teary eyes.  Of which everyone must face when confronted with a life without yours truly. Right, so Blogger or Blogspot or whatever it is I am using to blog tracks all these different statistics.  And if you weren’t as incredibly self-assured as myself, you might spend hours every day pondering over them.  I did happen to take a look; ya know just to see what there is to see. Congratulations, readers!  You are part of an international community! USA for the win. Now, I know you are all excitedly telling everyone you know to check out this hilarious blog your friend is writing.  And that’s exactly what you should be doing… but I have a question. ET or Early Termination

First, I'd like to primitively apologize for the spelling/grammar of this blog entry and all those following.  Normally all blog entries undergo a strict process of refinement.  I write them out during the wee hours of the night after a hard day of giving a damn about languages and cultures beyond my understanding, then I review them a few times, and finally I upload them to the internet whenever I've the opportunity.  A few occasionally slip through under the pressure of booze and the good humor associated with it.  I suppose this might be of that variety. My laptop is dead.  A part of me died with it and I very well may just have to turn tail and go home. I feel incredibly guilty with how hard I am taking this.  When I signed up for the Corps there was always the chance I would be posted a million miles from any access to the outside world.  There are a number of volunteers in Cameroon without cell phone access, power, or any other luxuries of the western world.  I'm
